River Cottage and Equinox

At an evening for the Sustainable Soils Alliance, Dan from organic kombucha brewery Equinox met Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage. Dan and Hugh struck up a friendship based on their shared love of kombucha, and Hugh invited the Equinox team to taste the River Cottage home brew. A fruitful partnership was born – resulting in some seriously tasty seasonal brews!

Equinox began with a couple of friends brewing kombucha in a spare bedroom in a little town Yorkshire. Today, they are a multi award-winning organic brewery, making their kombucha the traditional way – pure and live, with no hidden nasties. Still craft brewing in the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire, their mission is to disrupt the soft drinks market with the very best organic and sustainable drinks.

Many people will be familiar with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall from his River Cottage series, as well as TV journalism and campaigns around ethical food issues such as fishing and plastic packaging. He’s also part of the organic farming movement, and a long-time friend of Riverford.

Hugh has been brewing his own kombucha at home for many years now. “The River Cottage range of kombuchas reflects my enthusiasm for this lovely fermented drink,” he says, “And of course I wanted to use natural flavours both from the garden and the wild. The pandemic has given many of us time to reconnect with nature and to think about ways to improve health and make positive choices with our food and drink. I hope our kombuchas can play a small part in helping people to do just that.”
