Vanilla custard
This easy to make vanilla custard can be poured over traditional sponge puddings, tarts, cakes or ice creams, or layered in a trifle. It's also a sumptuous dessert eaten on its own in a bowl with fresh strawberries or raspberries piled on top.
Ingredients
- 300ml single cream
- 1 vanilla pod (seeds only)
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cornflour

Step 1
Heat the cream and vanilla gently in a pan.

In a bowl, mix the eggs yolks with the sugar and cornflour.

When the cream comes to the boil, pour over the egg yolk mixture and mix together well.
